How can we evaluate various models of DNA to describe the structure and function of DNA? (d)*use a DNA or RNA codon chart to determine protein strands based on a segment of nucleic acid. In order to meet this standard, it is expected that students will* explain the process of protein synthesis, including transcription and translation. Protein synthesis is a biochemical process that used information coded in DNA to construct proteins.Proteins carry out the essential functions of life processes through systems of specialized cells. The structure of DNA serves as a code for the production of proteins through the process of protein synthesis. Modern advances (since 1990) in science and technology have added to our understanding of the structure of DNA and its function (e.g., Sanger technique, Human Genome Project, sequencing chromosomes, etc.).The code for specific amino acids are-virtually the same for all life forms. The information encoded in DNA molecules provides instructions for assembling amino acids which ultimately form protein molecules. Each nucleotide is identified by the base it contains: adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), or thymine (T). DNA is a helical macromolecule consisting of nucleotides. The structure and function of DNA are intimately linked.
